Cedar that weathers well
Left alone, western red cedar turns silver. Here is how we detail it so it greys evenly.
Cedar greys in the sun and stays brown where the eaves shelter it. Uneven weathering is a detailing problem, not a timber problem.
Three rules
Keep boards off the ground by at least 200 mm. Leave a ventilated gap behind them. Use stainless fixings so the streaks never start.
